Stories of Mountain Bike Racing
Written by Ed Hamilton
Wednesday, 08 April 2009

Mark Vickers has been racing hard in the early part of the 2009 season and has some stories to tell!  First, he made a trip up to Columbia Tennessee for the second race of the Southeastern Regional Championship Series.  The very next weekend, he was in action again at SERC #3 at the famous Tsali Trails in North Carolina.

Here’s his story;

Regions Bank Race Weekend, Albany Ga.
Written by Ed Hamilton
Friday, 27 March 2009
The ICS/Chain Reaction Roadie crew recently took a trip to Albany Georgia for the Regions Bank Race Weekend.  They had a great showing, although we lost one of our riders (Darren "Bullet" Boulware) for a few weeks after he fractured his scapula in a race crash.  Get well soon Darren!

New team member and well respected member of the U.S. Air Force Scotti Smith gives us the blow by blow;

WJOX and Radio Personalities Make Good
Written by Administrator
Tuesday, 24 March 2009
The following message below are not my words, but an excerpt from an e-mail I received today.  I am posting it as a follow-up to the previous article: http://compvelo.com/content/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=127&Itemid=2

This message is extremely important because it demonstrates three things very clearly:
1. Cyclists are passionate, united, have a voice, and a means to stand up for our rights using peaceful and constructive means and apparently, it is effective.
2. Everyone is human and not perfect, but a little humility, understanding, and bravery go a long way - on both sides.  Kudos to the folks at WJOX and Lance Taylor for demonstrating some accountability and making something positive out of a negative. And thanks to everyone else who knows when enough is enough.
3. The ball is now in the cyclists court and we can do a lot with this kind of publicity, but we can also do far more damage to our cause than any radio or TV personality by talking the talk, but not walking the walk.  Nothing will invalidate a message faster than being a hypocrite - so if you have had enough of being harassed by motorists and you want Alabama to start giving cyclists a little respect, you need to give it as well.

Continue to lead by example, stand up for cyclist rights, and enforce responsible cycling.

Executive Chief, Competitive Velo Cycling

PLEASE TURN YOUR RADIOS TO WJOX FM 94.5. ON TUESDAY AT 11:00 AN FRIDAY AT 12:30 TO HEAR...................

David Stone, (lAW) League Cycling Instructor is going to join us tomorrow (Tuesday) on the show at 11am and on Friday Danny Feldman an Alabama Bicycle Attorney will join us at 12:30..............Lance

-----------------------------------------------------------

My name is Lance Taylor, I am one of the co-host of the Roundtable on WJOX.  My partner and I made some borderline ridiculous comments about cycling on Thursday and as you know there has been some obvious fallout. I do want to let you know, not that it matters, that what was blogged were not my direct comments. It really doesn't matter because my comments were uneducated. I would like to tell you that the past 48 hours have been a little strange and to be honest unproductive for all parties.

With all of that said I think that there is an opportunity for not only WJOX, but our listeners to learn a little bit more about what your community has to deal with on a daily basis.

As I have stated, I made a mistake, but why not use positive energy and let others like myself become informed of the dangers of motorists and cyclists.

If you have a moment please email me and let me know if you or someone would like to be a guest on our show this week to discuss.

Thanks and I hope to hear from you soon.

Today (Thursday )on WJOX 94.5 Birmingham (around 11:50 AM) one of the DJ's advocated hitting cyclists with cars. He said "I wish people would hit them, just clip them and send them flying over their handlebars." The context was he was angry with cyclists riding in the road. I have called the station and have been put thru to voice mail with nobody responding.  Maybe with added voices an apology and clarification will be achieved.........................................

PLEASE........ PLEASE........... PLEASE.......... LETS CALL TODAY,  E-MAIL OR BOTH AND SHOW OUR DISGUST WITH THIS ATTITUDE AND COMMENT.
